Tamworth

pigThe Tamworth, the ginger pig, is the only native breed of pig that is red. It experienced the least influence from inputs of Asian pigs used in the 18th century to improve native types; retaining its longer snout and erect ears of earlier British Pigs.

The Tamworth is suited to both quality pork and bacon production, although historically noted as a pork pig.

It is still classified by the Rare Breed Survival Trust as being on their vulnerable watchlist.

Gloucestershire Old Spot

A seriously endangered species until the last few years of the 20th century when its numbers increased due to the endeavours of the Rare Breed Survival Trust, and today is classified as a minority breed.

A large white pig with lop ears and black spots they were originally known as the orchard pig, where it feed on the wind fall.

A hardy breed it happily lives outdoors at Nethergate farm and so fits well into our extensive, free range system that lets Tamworths and G.O.S. experience freedom to roam and root as nature intended.
